Baseball was gaining popularity in Centralia at the close of the Civil War. The players earned as much as $200 monthly. In 1889 a game called football was first played in Centralia. Coaching efforts of Trout and Evers produced many victories. At the turn of the century, basketball was introduced to Centralia and life has never been the same. Centralia Orphans basketball has been credited with being the winningest high school in the nation. Track and field at Centralia can boast many champs and record breakers. Tennis reached it peak of popularity in the 1920’s and 1930’.
